I selected these flowers from my garden

specifically for this painting

because together they are the perfect

complimentary colors with

an added a splash of grays and

whites to calm the setting.

A mixed bouquet from my garden.

When everything is in bloom

it is easy to make stunning bouquets

and dramatic paintings.

This old faithful Snow Queen Oakleaf Hydrangea

is always a faithful bloomer in my garden.

Here one of the white blossoms is

resting on a silk embroidery piece.

The large leaves are just as dramatic

as the blooms.

As I was arranging these

freshly clipped peonies from

my garden, they reminded me of

a small family...Momma, Daddy,

and a baby 'bud'

Always amazing to me is that my

light pink ones have

very little fragrance...

But the darker pink ones

sure make up for it.

The darker peony blooms smell

much better than any rose

that I've smelled to date.

Peonies, fragrant or not,

are a delight to paint !

I noticed bountiful rustic flower boxes

beaming with colorful impatiens.

Part of being an artist is noticing

subtleties in lighting. The cast

lighting of the yellow zinnia and pear

created the look of a sunny sky

in the city scape on the plate.

The yellow is also cast onto the cloth and the table.

These subtleties give the painting

more excitement and life.
