Perch Napping

Perch Napping
4" x 6" original oil

Update on the sparrows...They are now
on their third brood for the summer.
Last year they had three also. That's
about 12 babies in one year. Yikes!
They are very hard workers making
many trips back and forth to "feather"
the nest. Then sitting for about a week
on the eggs. They take turns, but the mother
does most of the sitting. Then it's several
weeks of intense feeding. Even after the
babies launch they are cared for and fed
until they can be on their own. It's been
wonderful to watch. Enjoy the little things!

I probably should have named this one...
A Perfect Fit. Oh Well, too late.
Making good use of the rice bowl.
It has such a graceful and elegant

I think I'm more excited about the shadow
under the pear than the pear itself.
But I do like the way the pear came out too.

Another garden favorite...
Campanula persicifolia
or white bells.
They are an Asian variety that have naturalized
in the US and many other countries.
The rice bowl is a new find and will
undoubtedly show up in still lifes from
time to time.

Thought it was pretty cool to have the
Asian influence in the bowl as well as
in my garden flowers. I must say, the
bells are not the easiest little guys to
paint either.

Grafted Lilac and Sea Thrift

Grafted Lilac and Sea Thrift
5"x 7" original oil
canvas board

Sold

Fun with shadows and light.
The bottle magnifies the light as it
passes through making the cast light
and shadow more intense.

The grafted lilac has a much smaller
leaf than normal. It makes for a much
lighter and and delicate composition.

Another Iris with some fast painting.

slump as if they were tired of posing.

Two For One!

Sold

Two paintings today! The peonies are fading rapidly,

so I'm trying to make good use of them for paintings.
You can probably tell they are the same flowers, but
handled in different ways. The lighting is a little different

White Clematis

White Clematis
5"x 7" original oil
canvas board

Sold

A recent visit to my mother's and
WOW what a beautiful white clematis.
It's about 6" across. Couldn't resist
painting such a beauty.

Another study on white.
There is very little pure white in this painting.
Even a soft non-reflective surface, such as a
flower petal, picks up the colors around.
Only the very brightest areas have pure white
paint. Note, the table top has a bit of
white reflecting on it's surface. And the porcelain
vase has the table top reflecting on it's surface.

are in is one of my hand painted

Eye Candy, Pink Rose

Eye Candy, Pink Rose
4"x 6" original oil painting
gallery wrap canvas

Available
A white porcelain candy dish that
on closer look has very little pure
white. It reflects all the surrounding
colors, pink, brown and green.
Even the highlights have other colors.
Keen observation is an important factor
in being an artist. Hopefully when all is
done
, the white reads as white.
