I was so happy to find this lovely
tea caddy at a second hand store
a few years ago.

The reflective silver surface of the
tea caddy and its lid enhances
the peony and all things nearby.
The silvery reflections also create
subtle hues and colorful shadows
which interact with each other.

This lovely Johnson Bros. creamer
is the fitting host for some
yarrow clippings from my garden.
Together they enabled me to portray
a study of contrasts:
soft yarrow blossoms and soft feathery leaves
contrasted with a hard porcelain creamer,
intense dramatic lights
contrasted against mysterious darks,
and colorful fuzzy shadows
contrasted against sharp crisp shadows.

Although each flower bloom of the daylily
lasts only one day, each blossom
presents itself as pure beauty for that limited time.

Being perennials, my garden lilies
faithfully come-up each year with
their multiple budded stems bringing
many days of vibrant color to my garden.

For the composition of this painting
I've selected a lovely blooming stem with buds
and a pretty asian blue & white bowl
