A traditional still life with an
abundance of hydrangeas.
A focus of attention is directed by the
brightest lights and sharpest details.
The stem, leaf movement and cloth
lead the viewer around the composition
and in and out of the mystery passages.
A painting needs a little mystery!

Hydrangea time again, I'm sure you can tell.
I have been working on several hydrangea paintings
and will be posting more soon.
The unique thing about this painting,
it's a painting within a painting.
I also painted on the porcelain pitcher.

Even though it's a white cloth, the shadows
and lights have plenty of reflected colorful light.

Thirty-some years ago, we toured the
Fenton Art Glass factory and watched
vases like this one, and other glass items,
being hand made by skilled glassworkers.

After seeing each piece of raw glass become
an artistic creation... I could hardly wait
to visit the gift shop at the factory...
This vase came home with me... and since then...
every time I put flowers into this vase...
I have fond memories of visiting the Fenton Factory.

The Fenton family still offers 'free' factory tours...
They just celebrated the companies 105th birthday !

Lilac blooms with their lovely hues
and pleasing green leaves
are a wonderful bouquet overflowing
this Fenton glass vase of decades ago.

Enjoy the varied hues of lilac,
warm lighting, and soft shadows
in this traditional still life painting
