These friendly wooly sheep
in their farmyard pasture
were genuinely curious about me
and my desire to be close to them.

With my fondness of sheep,
I always look forward to spending
a day amongst them in their farm life
so that I can paint and capture them
on canvas for your lasting enjoyment.

Vintage Cobalt & Hydrangea
8" x 10" original oil painting
gallery wrapped stretched canvas

Sold

I'm including two hydrangea paintings with
this post to show how varied one hydrangea plant's
flowers can be. At different times of the year
my plants can vary greatly. It all depends on
the weather conditions and temperatures.
Paintings can vary greatly as well in
temperature, detail, and mood.

It was another abundant year for these
beautiful blossoms.

A new vintage tea set's creamer is
shown above and old favorite cobalt
jars below.

I hope you enjoy!

While arranging other stem clippings
into an old vintage teapot.
I set this lovely hydrangea blossom
onto this silver serving platter.

The reflective surface of the platter
picked-up the wonderful color hues
from the petals and leaves.

The A la carte blossom was such a
pretty serving I decided to capture it
on canvas for your lasting enjoyment.

Those of you that have followed me and my
paintings over time know of my sweetness for hydrangeas.

This vintage silver sugar jar was the
perfect host for these fresh clipped blossoms
with their abundance of beautiful petals.
The overflow rests nearby and its reflection
is in the sugar bowl.

The reflective quality of silver is
enticing to paint with all the reflecting
colors, lights, and shadows. The most
fun thing to paint are the glints of bright lights.

These peonies are some of my
favorites. Not only are they beautiful
but they have a heavenly fragrance.

Enjoy the glints of light off the
glass vase as well as the
lights and shadows among the petals
and the stems.
The background adds a bit
of mystery as the peonies
blend into the darks.

I love this old egg basket because it has
carried many blossoms cut from my garden.
These peonies looked so lovely
in the basket I decided to paint them
as they were when I brought them in from the garden.

I try to paint what I see which includes lots
of color in the lights and shadows.
Colors make paintings come to life.

It is always a special treat each year
when the soft velvety blossom of this
rusty iris starts to bloom.
One would think it is going to be a
purple blossom but as it opens
it becomes more and more rusty.
I tried to capture that mystery of this special
flower with the etherial background.
The glints of light add some excitement.

The overflowing speaks for itself...
These lovely lilacs were so heavy with blooms
they gracefully bowed down to the table top.
I tried to "catch" the feeling of
their abundance and grace.

Two different approaches with these
paintings. The first was painted
"en plein air" French for
painted in the open air.
The oakleaf hydrangea was so abundant
and beautiful it inspired me to
take my pallet out and paint in the garden.

Of course the pink hydrangeas in the vase
were set up in the studio and painted
with dramatic lighting.

Either way, hydrangeas always inspire me!

As I started this painting
I embraced the fact that I had
Light From Above
which created both a glow of light
on these delicate pansy blossoms
plus also a pleasing shadow pattern

And then I thought...
it is surely a blessing to have
some light from above.

I want to thank everyone for following and patronizing me in 2012!
Hope everyone had a blessed holiday season with family and friends.

I am entering my last Master's Degree semester!!!!
It's the dreaded research semester but hopefully
soon I will have more time to devote to
my blog and paintings.
As I near the end of my Master's Degree
the following quote
seems most appropriate...

You are never too old to

set another goal or dream a new dream.”
C.S. Lewis
